FAQs

Questions before you book

The practical answers. If yours is not here, call the crew and they will sort it out.

Do I need fishing experience?

No. Plenty of our guests are first-timers. The crew rigs the gear, shows you what to do and helps you land your fish. Experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own favourite reel if they prefer.

What equipment is provided?

Every trip includes fishing gear (rods, reels and tackle), bait and light refreshments, and there is a toilet on board. Plastic bags for your catch are provided too.

What should I bring?

Clothing to suit the season, non-slip shoes, sunglasses and a hat, and your own food and snacks (only light refreshments are provided). Bring an esky for your catch and leave it in your car, as space on board is limited.

You will also need a current Victorian Recreational Fishing Licence. Licences cannot be bought on board.

Can children join?

Yes. Families fish with us all the time and our whiting and pinkie trips in particular suit kids. Tell us the ages of everyone in your group when you enquire so the crew can plan the day and advise on licences.

Where does the trip depart?

Trips depart from St Kilda Marina (42B Marine Parade, St Kilda) or Werribee Marina depending on the charter and the season. We confirm your meeting point and departure time with your booking.

Please arrive 15 minutes before departure. Shared charters cannot wait for latecomers.

What happens in unsuitable weather?

We fish rain, hail or shine and only cancel when conditions are a safety concern. If the weather stops the boat leaving the marina, your trip is rebooked for another date. Weather conditions are advised the day before your trip.

How do deposits and payments work?

A 50% deposit secures your booking, paid by bank transfer. For individual seats the deposit is due 7 days before departure; for group bookings it is due 14 days before. The balance is paid in cash on the day or by bank transfer the day before departure.

Cancellations the day before and no-shows on the day are non-refundable.

When is my booking confirmed?

Submitting an enquiry does not hold a seat. Your booking is confirmed once our crew contacts you, confirms the date and departure details, and your deposit is received.

Can I book the whole boat?

Yes. Our gummy shark charter is a whole-boat booking: 6 hours on the water for your own group of up to 6 guests, from $1,800 for the boat. Whole-boat hire is subject to availability and agreement, so enquire early for popular dates.

Is there a minimum number of guests?

Shared trips need 6 guests on board to run. If you book fewer seats, we combine your booking with other guests on the same departure. The gummy shark charter is booked as a whole boat.

Are gift vouchers available?

Yes. A gift certificate covers a 5-hour fishing trip for one person. Enquire through the gift voucher page and we will arrange it with you directly.

Do I need a fishing licence?

Yes. Victorian Fisheries requires everyone who fishes on our charters to hold a current Recreational Fishing Licence. Licences cannot be bought on board, so purchase yours online before the trip.

Can I bring food and drinks?

Please bring your own food and snacks. Alcohol is permitted in cans only (no glass), with a maximum of three cans per guest. We do not supply alcohol.
